What’s on The Capitol Heights’ playlist?
We’re thinking about putting out ~10 songs of what we’re listening to every month. We also reserve a special spot for a local DC track:
- Nihilis – Help Our Souls Tonight
I found this song on Soundcloud recently and really enjoyed it. - Beware of Darkness – Howl
The riff on this song is so tasty. It feels like 70s rock met a fuzzy dragon and just kept petting it until this song emerged. Unfortunately, a lot of their other songs don’t sound like this. - Say Anything – Do Better
FACT: this is the best Say Anything song. The part where he says “we can be the greatest band in the world” is awesome. It’s ridiculously motivating and is one of the only songs that’s not hardcore/metal yet still on my workout playlist. - The Parlor Mob – Practice in Patience
The weird main riff in this song is intoxicating. I have no idea what key it is in. I might have to bring in a ringer to figure it out. I also love the bridge where his voice kicks up a 1/2 octave and I strain to sing it. - I Fight Dragons – Disaster Hearts
The 8 bit sounds in this song are such a nice touch. His falsetto is beautiful. - Capitol Cities – Farrah Fawcett Hair
This is just a great song. Should out to ATL and Andre 3000. “I like it when my hair is fluffy.” - Muse – Madness
This song has beautiful lyrics. The climax will certainly give you chills. It’s very Queen-esque especially where there are like 9 layers progressively getting higher and higher. - Foster the People – Helena Beat
Love the funky Foster the People vibed verse. Overall cool sound to it. - Fountains of Wayne – Hey Julie
This song makes me smile and is reminiscent of the daily grind. - Radical Face – Welcome Home, Son
Extremely different dynamics between the verse and chorus. The chord progression and the time signature changes make the song stand out as well. - The Get Up Kids – Sick in Her Skin
First heard this song in high school. I like the sub melody and all of the accompanying sounds.
Local track:
The Silver Liners – Shine On
This track has such a good feel. I love the layering of the words “shine on” on the chorus. The way the song tapers away at the end should just be extended into a 10 minute loop for all our sakes. The various remixes of the track on Spotify are awesome. I wonder if all of their dreams are coming true now that the Silver Line is opening this month?
