What’s on The Capitol Heights’ playlist? October Edition
This month we’re doing long songs, and less than 6 minutes doesn’t count.
- Sufjan Stevens – Impossible Soul
This epic from Sufjan Stevens’ Age of Adz goes though many distinct parts and tells a story of a couple in turmoil. Give it a listen when you have 25 minutes free =]. - Jimmy Eat World – Goodbye Sky Harbor
Goodbye Sky Harbor can be found on Jimmy Eat World’s old album Clarity. The song ends in a riff that lasts a good part of 15 minutes as it builds and evolves slowly over time. - Sublime – Pawn Shop
- Dream Theater – Ministry of Lost Souls
The story in this song is fun as well as the awesome guitar part. Such an odd chord progression and the solos are wonderful. And when everything comes back together at the very end – it’s worth the wait. - Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird
FREE BIRD! - Oasis – Champagne Supernova
There were mysteriously few songs from the 90’s that were long. This was the only one I could think of. - Guns N’ Roses – November Rain
I never really listened to this song until it was referenced in a Regina Spektor song. - The White Stripes – Ball And Biscuit
I love the sound of his guitar on this song – the amount of distortion is just perfect. And of course he absolutely wrecks his guitar on the solo parts. And why is he the seventh son? I’ve never understood that - Metallica – One
For whatever reason, I only got into Metallica when I was ~18 years old. Very glad I did and this song was one of the first Metallica songs I ever heard. Whenever I heard an Em9 chord – I instantly think of this song. - Elton John – Tiny Dancer
When I hear this song I think of this awesome band in Austin, TX playing this song.

Our local track is Don’t Bury Me Yet by Blueheart Revival. We heard about them on The Circus Life podcast, and we really enjoyed their stuff. (Both the podcast and the song!)
We’ve provided a Spotify embed here for your listening pleasure. We couldn’t find Blueheart Revival on Spotify.
